Easy Way To Get Snowy Trees With Embossing Powder

I can't throw out my paper scraps - argh!!!  More often, I hear paper crafters say they can't cut into their paper (they "hoard" it).  Well, there are no issues with that in Nicole's Stamping Cottage because I'm usually too excited to use it.  But I save every little piece!  Do you do this...stare at the piece in your hand... think, "Hmmm....I should toss this....it's no bigger than my fingernail....wait, I have a star punch I can use with this...." and back into the scrap bag it goes.

Splitcoaststampers Card Sketch Challenge 776

Solution: this sketch that beautifully uses those designer series paper scraps!  Grab a handful, trim them down to 1/2" wide or so, and stick them on your card front at interesting angles.

Stampin' Up! Perfectly Plaid Christmas card with Wrapped In Plaid paper scraps and heat embossed snow

Can you see how I did that on my card?  The paper is Wrapped In Plaid Designer Series Paper - and no way can I throw out any of that warm and cozy plaid!

Look at the "snow" on my trees!  No, it's not Snowfall Accents Puff Paint (go to this post to see what happens when you add that directly on a stamped image).  I dipped a Stampin' Sponge in a Versamark ink pad, then lightly tapped it around my stamped tree image.  I sprinkled on White Stampin' Emboss Powder then melted it with a Heat Tool.  Isn't that a great effect?  And if you overdo the Versamark, just take a paintbrush and brush off some of the embossing powder.

Did You See This Builder Punch Tip?

Stampin' Up! Builder punch tip using stamp positioning tool

Last week on my site, I showed a handy tip using Stampin' Up!'s builder punches with a stamp positioning tool (like the Stamparatus or MISTI).  The builder punches punch out multiple pieces at one time and this tip shows you how to easily line up your stamps to minimize paper waste.  See the tip here along with a really cute Snowman Season card!

Same Layout, Different Stamp Set

As you read this, I am just returning from a packed 4-day trip to Las Vegas for Stampin' Up!'s OnStage.  Hopefully, you've been following me on Facebook and Instagram to see the sneak peeks of product and projects in the upcoming Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogs!

But let's get back to the now.  And right now, we are thinking of Thanksgiving and Christmas!

I had a pile of Wrapped In Plaid Designer Series Paper scraps on my desk and decided to recreate this card from my weekly Tuesday Facebook Live.  It makes such effective use of those too-pretty-to-toss smaller pieces AND it's a simple layout.  Win-win!

Stampin' Up!'s Perfectly Plaid Christmas card using Wrapped In Plaid DSP scraps

You can follow the link above for a printable step-by-step that will tell you how to create the basic layout.  Instead of stamping and punching out a snowman, you stamp and punch out a pine tree using the Perfectly Plaid Bundle (includes Perfectly Plaid stamp set and Pine Tree punch at a discount).  The Night of Navy rhinestones are from the Basics Holiday Rhinestones Jewels package.  The mix of colors in the package give you a great variety to use on your projects!

Perfectly Plaid Serene Scene

As you are reading this, I am in Las Vegas to attend Stampin' Up!'s OnStage.  It's a mini-convention and they pack it with presentations, giveaways, business training, and fresh ideas.  The energy and excitement is contagious.  I come back pumped up and brimming with new ways to provide value and fun to you, my friends and customers!  I need to pinch myself to believe that this wonderful hobby is my job!  If you'd love a wonderful hobby that includes a shopping discount, or would like the opportunity to make some (or more than some!) extra cash, or you have your own great reason, talk to me!  This is about you and the richness it brings to your life - so share with me what that is.  There is definitely a place for you on My Joyful Stampers team!

Perfectly Plaid serene scene Christmas card with Snowfall Accents Puff Paint

It's ironic that in the middle of Las Vegas, I am posting a calm, quiet, serene card.  Ha!  This was made with the Perfectly Plaid stamp set and a Shaded Spruce ink pad.  I used a technique called generation stamping - inking up an image, then stamping it repeatedly without reinking.  Each stamping produces a shade just a touch lighter than the original color.  It's a fantastic, economical way to get many colors from one ink pad.

Perfectly Plaid serene scene Christmas card with Snowfall Accents Puff Paint

I added a line of Snowfall Accents Puff Paint just below the trees.

Tip: apply the puff paint just below the stamped trees, tilting the cardstock slightly downward to prevent the liquid from touching the trees.  Why?  Well, see the photo below!

What happens when Puff Paint is applied directly to stamped image - green snow!

When the puff paint touches ink, it turns that color - green snow was NOT the effect I wanted.

See more examples using Snowfall Accents Puff Paint here.

Wednesday Sketch Challenge

Yesterday I held a Christmas card class at my local library.  The laughs and the conversation were uplifting.  Plus, it felt good to relax and cut loose with some creativity!  The best part was meeting the women who attended - there really are so many friendly people out there.  I left that class energized and refreshed, and I hope the other women there felt that way, too.  I'm holding another class today - a Sweet 'N Simple class - and get to experience the same kind of connections.  If you're in the Pittsburgh, PA area, I would love to meet you at a class!  And if you're not in the Pittsburgh, PA area, then consider my printable tutorials, photo tutorials, and weekly Facebook Lives my classes brought to you!  Let me know what you'd like to see, learn, and read reviews on.  I'm open to it all!

It's Wednesday so it's time for a Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge.

View the thread for this week's sketch.  You can always upload your card to the thread for us to see!  These challenges have no deadline.
Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge 775

I saw leaves when viewing this sketch.  I also saw snowflakes but since the season for making fall cards is quickly closing, leaves it was!

Stampin' Up!'s Gather Together Splitcoaststampers Sketch 775

Underneath that vellum is a piece of Pear Pizzazz cardstock, randomly stamped with the sentiment in Old Olive ink.  I love how it subtly peeks through.  A gold brad in each corner adds warmth to the card and neatly frames the "swirling" leaves.  Those were created with Come To Gather designer series paper and the Gathered Leaves dies.

Stampin' Up!'s Gather Together Splitcoaststampers Sketch 775

A neat trick is to use a bone folder to curl the ends of twine.  A sponge dipped in Soft Suede ink was used to add focus to the sentiment piece.  Sponging is one of my favorite go-to techniques.  Click the image below for a printable pdf that has the measurements, supply list, and steps to create this card.

Purple Posy Ink to be Discontinued

Special Message from Stampin' Up!:

Despite our efforts to resolve issues with Purple Posy ink, we have learned that the ink color is still shifting over time. This means that the color is coordinating more loosely than we typically allow with our colors. Due to these ongoing challenges, we have decided to discontinue Purple Posy classic ink. As of November 5, 2019, the following items will no longer be available to purchase:

Purple Posy Classic Stampin’ Pad (item 150084)

Purple Posy Classic Stampin’ Ink Refill (item 150091)

2019–2021 In Color Classic Stampin’ Pad Assortment (item 150087)

We are unable to replace Purple Posy ink pads for customers or demonstrators who have already received them. However, anyone with concerns regarding the color shifting properties of their Purple Posy ink pads may contact Demonstrator Support and we can offer a $7.50 usd/$10.25 cad coupon code as compensation. The coupon codes will expire on January 1, 2020.
The three item numbers listed above may still appear in the 2020–2021 annual catalog, but will not be available to purchase after November 5, 2019. All other Purple Posy products (such as Purple Posy Stampin’ Write Marker, Purple Posy Cardstock, Purple Posy Stampin’ Blends, etc.) will remain available for purchase.
While it's sad to say good-bye to Purple Posy inks pads and refills, remember that you can use the Stampin' Write Marker to color on your stamps.  You can still have the coordination that sets Stampin' Up! apart, especially since Purple Posy cardstock, ribbon, and Blends are all available.  If you have any questions, always feel free to contact me.

A Flurry of Snowmen From Snowman Season!

Hello, friends!  How was your weekend?  Friday evening I got to visit with my aunt and uncle whom I haven't seen in 15 years!  They are active people who have many interests, so there is always something to talk about.  My uncle is in his 60s and taught himself to play the ukelele recently.  My aunt loves to read so we talked about books we enjoy.  Then Saturday we got up at 5 AM and drove 3-1/2 hours to watch Emma run her final cross country meet of the season.  It was an important meet, she had a goal for herself, and she crushed it!!  She ran a new PR!  What a way to finish the season, right?  I'm SO proud of her!

I think this card has to be one of my favorites ever.  I was actually jumping out of my chair as I made it and clapping with glee!

Flurry of Snowmen using Stampin' Up!'s Snowman Season plus Snowfall Accents Puff Paint

What I love about this card:

Flurry of Snowmen using Stampin' Up!'s Snowman Season plus Snowfall Accents Puff Paint

The snowmen are stamped and punched using the Snowman Builder Punch, then adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Flurry of Snowmen using Stampin' Up!'s Snowman Season plus Snowfall Accents Puff Paint

Don't be afraid to have a bit of fun with your stamping!  Tilt your snowmen, tear your cardstock, add rhinestones where you want some sparkle - there are NO RULES!  That's what is SO amazing about this art!

Here's a neat trick for using a punch that punches out multiple pieces at one time, like the Snowman Builder Punch.  It uses a stamp positioner tool (Stampin' Up!'s Stamparatus is one or I used a Mini MISTI in the photo tutorial below).

Punch into cardstock and keep negative piece.
Stamp Positioner Punch Trick - step 1 - punch in to cardstock and keep negative piece

Place negative piece in stamp positioner.  Lay stamps in punched out spaces (Snowman Season set used here).
Stamp Positioner Punch Trick - Step 2 - place negative piece in stamp positioner and lay stamps in punched out spaces.

Close stamp positioner lid to pick up stamps.  Place blank cardstock in positioner and anchor with magnets (they come with the positioner).  Ink up stamps, then close lid to stamp on cardstock.
Stamp Positioner Punch Trick -Step 3 - Close lid to pikc up stamps - Place cardstock in positioner - Ink, then stamp

Remove stamped cardstock from positioner and insert into punch.  It lines up perfectly!
Stamp Positioner Punch Trick - Step 4 - images line up perfectly in your punch

That little tip makes stamping life easier, doesn't it?  It works for any of our Builder punches.
